Month-long celebration highlights the fun and games of local parks and recreation

Fairbanks, Alaska – Monday, July 1st, 2019 – Summer is here, which means it’s time to get out and explore the great things happening at your local parks and recreation centers and parks. This July, join in on the fun and games offered by local parks and recreation with FNSB Parks and Recreation as they celebrate Park and Recreation Month. A variety of fun activities are planned for residents of all ages and abilities — including the Play Passport program, a Cardboard Boat Regatta and special events at Pioneer Park.

Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s official Park and Recreation Month. Created by NRPA, Park and Recreation Month specifically highlights the vital and powerful role local parks and recreation, such as FNSB Parks and Recreation, play in conservation, health and wellness, and social equity efforts in communities all across the country.

This year, it’s all about highlighting the fun, games and exciting offerings at your local parks and recreation centers. From providing special events to exciting youth programs and everything in between, FNSB Parks and Recreation has a wide variety of programs that are not only fun, they also bring the community together.

In Fairbanks, Alaska, you can celebrate Park and Recreation Month by competing in the Roll, Run and Row Triathlon, by joining FNSB Parks and Recreation and the Fairbanks Children's Museum at a Mess Makers or Playground Party program, by participating in the Fairbanks Trails Challenge, by making a splash at the Wescott Pool Water Carnival or by attending a special event at Pioneer Park.

NRPA also encourages everyone that supports parks and recreation to share how they are Game On for parks and recreation with the hashtag #GameOnJuly. For more information about Park and Recreation month, visit www.nrpa.org/July.
