Fishing- Corrected
Reel in some summer fun with Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks & Recreation and Alaska Department of Fish & Game! This series of fishing clinics will help you dive into the world of fishing in Alaska.

Each clinic is designed to teach absolute beginners, and those new to Alaska, the basics of fishing in our stocked lakes and the Chena River.

We'll teach you introductory skills and help build your confidence for fishing! Not sure what bait is the best? We'll teach you! Never held a fishing pole before? We'll help you!

These classes are primarily designed for teenagers and adults, but minors may sign up if accompanied by a participating adult.

June 11, Chena Lake 6:00-8:00pm (Meet at the Boat Launch)

In this clinic, we’ll target the stocked species in Chena Lake > rainbow trout, king salmon, coho salmon and Arctic char.  We’ll go over how to set up a simple fishing rod with appropriate tackle, how to cast, and how to land a fish.  After instruction from ADF&G staff members, participants will get a chance to fish.

July 18, Tanana Lakes 6:00-8:00pm (Meet at the non- motorized boat launch)
In this clinic, we’ll target the stocked species at Tanana Lakes > rainbow trout and king salmon.  We’ll also fish for northern pike which are native to this lake.  We’ll go over how to set up a simple fishing rod with appropriate tackle, how to cast, and how to land a fish. We’ll also show the special tackle and techniques used to fish for northern pike.  After instruction from ADF&G staff members, participants will get a chance to fish.

August 6, Graehl Landing  6:00-8:00pm (Graehl Park)
This park is located in town on the Chena River.  In this clinic, we’ll target Arctic grayling.  We’ll cover the tackle and techniques used  for this beautiful fish found throughout the Chena River.  We’ll also offer the opportunity to try fly fishing for grayling at this clinic.

Note:  Alaska residents 18 years old and older will need a fishing license.  Nonresidents 16 years old and older will need a fishing license.  You can buy your license online here > https://store.adfg.alaska.gov/
