  • Hello Fairbanks community, Parks and Recreation Director Mike Bork here. I wanted to give you all an update on where we are with facilities, programs, and general operations during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Mayor Bryce Ward has just announced several operational closures, in keeping with the CDC guidelines regarding the COVID-19 virus, and with the express the goal of slowing the spread of this outbreak.

Beginning immediately, and until MAY 1ST (or otherwise revised), the following Parks and Recreation programs and facilities will be closed:
    -All FNSB Pools
    -Big Dipper Ice Arena
-all Recreation Programs, including our Youth, Adaptive and Senior programs.

You can still enjoy the outdoors in our parks, our trails, and our recreation areas. The CDC recommends getting outside, getting fresh air, and enjoying nature - just keep 6 feet away from each other!

I know that this is a trying time for everyone: with schools being closed and other facilities and programs being canceled or postponed. The Fairbanks North Star Borough would not be taking these steps if the health and safety of our entire community was not our #1 priority.

Stay healthy and be with your family.
