Last Updated: Thursday, January 21st at 11:00am.

Chena Lake Recreation Area
River Park Non-Motorized Trails: The trails continue to be fast and firm, due to our long-term snow drought. Grooming will be done on Friday, with new classic ski tracks set. The River Park trails are a non-motorized area, with several loops ranging in length from 1.5 kilometers to 5.5 kilometers. Authorized uses include skiing, fat biking, ski jor, hiking and dog walking. A Winter Trails Challenge sign can be found on the 2.5 kilometer cutoff.

Mike Agbaba Multiuse Trail: All sections of the trail are firm, and passable for walkers. Have a hike and look for the Winter Trails Challenge sign on the 5 mile loop.

Chena Lake Recreation Area winter trails map can be viewed at https://fairbanksak.myrec.com/forms/6024_clrawintermap2020.pdf.

Other groomed trails in the Park include a loop around the Lake Park Day Use Field, the Lake Park peninsula maintenance trail, and camp loop #2 in the River Park.

The 4 acre ice fishing field is plowed for usage. It is recommended that highway vehicles stay within the plowed boundary. High winds have polished the surface; drive and walk with caution. Borough ice fishing huts are available for rental at parks.fnsb.us.

Tanana Lakes Recreation Area
Trails at Tanana Lakes are open and in good shape for use. Trails have not been groomed this week due to mechanical issues with the grooming equipment.

The skating rink and loop was flooded on January 17th and in good shape for skating. Stay alert for rough or wind blown areas. Staff will continue to maintain the ice as conditions allow.

Big Dipper Ice Arena Outdoor Rink
All outdoor rinks at the Dipper are being maintained daily. Rink 3 is closed on Thursday, January 21st so staff can repair several cracks in the ice and build ice over thin areas. Maintenance should be completed today and the rink open by this weekend.

A Nordic ski loop has been groomed around the Kiwanis Football Field and classic tracks have been set. Lights for the ski loop are available at request, please call the skateroom at 459-1104.

Please note that we don’t operate the Zamboni if the outdoor temperatures are minus 20 or colder.
