Chena Lake Recreation Area |
River Park Non-Motorized Trails: Staff will groom and set new cross country skiing tracks Thursday, March 4th. Conditions will be optimal for skiers and will remain suitable for hiking and dog walking, as well. The Winter Trails Challenge marker is on the 2.5 kilometer cutoff. Please remember these are non-motorized trails.
Mike Agbaba Multiuse Trail: Trails have improved and trails were freshly groomed Wednesday, March 3. Suitable for skiing and dog mushing due to the fresh fallen snow. All sections are still firm enough for walking and fat biking. Find the Winter Trails Challenge marker on the 5.1 mile loop cut off before breakup, as it is only accessible by crossing sections of the lake!
Chena Lake Recreation Area winter trails map can be viewed at https://fairbanksak.myrec.com/forms/6024_clrawintermap2020.pdf. Other groomed trails in the Park include a loop around the Lake Park Day Use Field, the Lake Park peninsula maintenance trail, and camp loop #2 in the River Park. The 4 acre ice fishing field is plowed for usage. It is recommended that highway vehicles stay within the plowed boundary. High winds have polished the surface; drive and walk with caution.

Tanana Lakes Recreation Area |

Big Dipper Ice Arena Outdoor Rink |
Ice inks #2 and #3 were resurfaced with the Zamboni on March 4th.
The Nordic Ski Loop, around Kiwanis Field and behind the Big Dipper, has been plowed and is easily accessible for walking. Tracks will be groomed and set Friday afternoon, March 5th. Lights for the ski loop are available at request, please call the skateroom at 459-1104.
Please note that we don’t operate the Zamboni if the outdoor temperatures are minus 20 or colder.
