Kids will have no reason to say there’s nothing to do this summer thanks to the new Fairbanks North Star Borough Parks and Recreation Department’s Play Passport program.

Beginning Monday, May 20th and continuing through Friday, August 9th, children ages 3-17 can play their way through summer by completing fun activities and earning stamps in their Play Passport. Some of the activities include: building a sandcastle at the lake, riding the train at Pioneer Park, bike riding along the Chena Lake Bike Path, and visiting the library.

“It makes a great summer bucket list for parents,” says Lauren Eck, Recreation Specialist III with FNSB Parks and Rec. “If kids say they’re bored, a parent can say, ‘Let’s complete an activity from your passport.’”

This new, free program was launched to encourage children to play more and explore all the Fairbanks North Star Borough has to offer in the summertime. And, at the end of the program, passports can be redeemed for prizes. Children who earn at least 10 stamps in their passport will receive fun prizes. Children who earn 18 stamps will be entered in a drawing to win a Parks and Rec Youth Superpass Membership (a $320 value).

Free passports are available through Parks and Rec and can be picked up at the Parks and Rec office located inside the Big Dipper Ice Arena. The office is open Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
